What kind of summer jobs and internships are provided?
TeenWork is an opportunity for young people to work with a variety of Georgia governmental agencies and private businesses, which are located throughout our state.

Government agencies such as the Office of the Governor, the Georgia Department of Human Services, the Georgia Department of Community Health, and the Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice are offering summer employment in the public sector.

Private businesses located across the state are also offering jobs and providing professional mentorship for youth in the TeenWork Program. Below are some examples of private businesses that pledged job in previous years:

    Target
    Marriott Marquis Hotel
    Tadda's Fitness Camp
Boys & Girls Clubs of Georgia
    Georgia Department of Corrections
    MARTA
    Georgia Department of Revenue
    Sports Authority
    Chick-Fil-A

How are applicants selected for employment?
Applicants are selected for a position based on their qualifications and based on how well their applications match the stated needs of employers. The purpose of the program is to provide the best possible match between applicants and employers. Applicants are matched on a first-come-first-served basis. There are fewer summer opportunities than there are applicants, so if you are not chosen to participate this year, by all means feel free to apply again for TeenWork 2011.

How will I know I have been selected for summer employment?
Once you apply, you will receive a confirmation email. In the month of May, you will be contacted by a Recruitment & Retention Coach to either schedule an interview or to be immediately placed within a job. Once you are selected for employment you will receive an acceptance letter from a TeenWork staff member who will inform you of the next steps. Please be advised that you may also have to go through the employer's normal hiring process, in terms of face-to-face interviews, additional paperwork and/or preliminary testing. Also, please note that completing the application does not guarantee being matched with a job and you are encouraged to continue looking for a job. What kind of support will I receive?
Each participating youth and employer will be assigned a Recruitment & Retention Coach (RRC). If selected, your RRC will be available to answer any questions and address any issues that arise throughout the summer.

What can I do if I am not selected?
Please do not be discouraged if you do not secure an opportunity with Georgia TeenWork this year. While we are always pursuing more companies to pledge jobs, there are many youth who apply to this program each year and some will not be matched with employers. Please visit the Tips for Job Hunting, Writing Resumes and Interview page. This information will help to support you in your job search.

We also encourage you to volunteer for a local community organization or church and participate in educational and training opportunities. The skill-set you build will be invaluable to adding to your resume and you would be contributing to the community as well--a WIN-WIN situation! Do not forget, you can also re-apply for TeenWork next year.
